Manned guarding across the West Midlands
Manned guarding is the core of what Professional Security Services Ltd provides. A security officer on site is there to control access, watch the premises, deal with people calmly, and follow the instructions agreed for that building. We supply officers from our Walsall office for sites across the West Midlands.
What a security officer actually does
The useful part of a guard is not the uniform on its own. It is a person who knows who should be on site, what to do when something looks wrong, and how to speak to staff, visitors and contractors without creating a scene. Before anyone starts, we want a proper brief: entrances, restricted rooms, alarm and key arrangements, opening times, and who we call.
Officers carrying out licensable security work are required to hold the appropriate SIA licence. We do not describe the company as an SIA Approved Contractor. If you need a particular licence type for a post, say so when you enquire and we will tell you whether we can cover it.
Where manned guarding fits
A static officer suits a reception, a gatehouse, a shop floor, a hotel lobby or a warehouse entrance where someone needs to be there for a set shift. If the site is empty for long periods, mobile patrols or key holding are often a better fit, sometimes alongside a shorter manned shift. What the assignment can include
Access and visitors
Officers can meet visitors, check instructions you have set, and keep a record of people coming and going.
Lock and unlock
Opening and closing can be part of the assignment where you want a consistent person on the door at those times.
Incident notes
You should expect a clear note of anything that happened on the shift, not a vague “all quiet” if it was not.
Questions
Do you provide security guards in Birmingham and Walsall?
Yes. We are based in Walsall and provide manned guarding across Birmingham, the Black Country and the wider West Midlands. Coverage for a particular site depends on the hours and the role.
Are you an SIA Approved Contractor?
No. We do not claim SIA Approved Contractor or ACS status. Officers deployed on licensable activities need to hold the relevant SIA licence, which is a requirement on the individual.
Can guarding be combined with patrols?
Yes. Many sites use an officer for the busy hours and mobile patrols, or key holding, outside those hours. We will say if that is a better fit than a 24-hour static post.
