Retail security is there to reduce theft and keep the shop floor orderly, while customers are still served properly. A heavy-handed officer costs you more in complaints than they save in stock. Loss prevention without a confrontation on every aisle
Shoplifting is only part of the job. Officers also watch delivery doors, staff entrances, busy changing areas and the queue at the till when you have asked them to. We need your policy in writing: when an officer may stop someone, who calls the police, and what they must not do. We will not invent powers the law does not give a security officer.
High streets, retail parks and shopping centres behave differently. A single unit on a high street may need one officer at peak trading and mobile patrols after lock-up. A larger store may need a floor officer and someone on the door. Tell us the layout and the hours you actually lose stock, not a guess at a 12-hour shift you do not need.
Centres and peaks
Places such as Merry Hill in Dudley, Touchwood in Solihull, Ventura in Tamworth and Birmingham’s retail core draw different crowds through the week. We can talk about cover for a store inside those locations. We do not claim to be the security contractor for the centre itself unless that is a contract we actually hold, and we do not publish client names here.
For the building after the shop has closed, key holding and alarm response are often more relevant than leaving an officer in an empty unit all night.

Questions
Can a retail officer detain shoplifters?
Only within the law and your policy. We will agree that line with you before the first shift. An officer who guesses at their powers is a liability.
Do you cover shopping centres?
We cover retail clients in town centres, retail parks and shopping locations across the West Midlands. Ask us about the store and the hours. A centre-wide contract is a different conversation from a single shop.
Do you install store CCTV?
No. We provide manned retail security. If you already have cameras, the officer can work to your instructions. We are not a CCTV installation company.
